With the introduction of Jack In the Box’s mini-sirloin burgers and BK’s Burger Shots, the miniburger market has become all the craze. Here are my reviews of the top 3.

1. BK’s Burger Shots

Small, inexpensive and delicious. Can get these in packs of 2 or 6. An improvement over their regular ‘hamburger’ which is basically a mini-burger as well.

2. Jack In The Box’s Mini-Sirloin Burgers

Delicious, but not overwhelming. Can only buy a pack of 3 and these are fairly sizeable so it’s a bit of a downer for someone who just wants maybe one, a couple of tacos, and something else.

3. McDonalds Hamburger

The golden arches has had this burger for decades.Their standard $.89 or so burger. Small and delicious. Better than the BK/Jack In the Box/Wendy’s version in my opinion.

Looking for some healthy and easy ground beef recipes that do not require a lot of time to make? Below are 3 delicious ground beef recipes that are filling and real crowd pleasers.

Just because you are cooking with ground beef, does not mean it has to be unhealthy. Most of the ground beef you find in supermarkets today is loaded with fat, cholesterol and hormones, but more and more supermarkets are starting to provide healthy organic meats to consumers, so hopefully you should be able to find healthy ground beef in your area.

To make the following recipes even healthier try and use all organic and low sodium ingredients.

If you happen to live near a Trader Joe’s, by all means shop there. The prices are fantastic and they carry a variety of healthy organic meats and other fine products.

THE RECIPES:

EASY SALISBURY STEAK RECIPE

Here is a little tip to keep in mind as you are making this delicious ground beef recipe. There is a chance that your ground beef steaks can fall apart while cooking. To prevent this from happening, form your steak patties and put them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or so before you start cooking. This will help hold your steaks stay together.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

1 egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 small onion finely chopped

1 garlic clove chopped

1 tablespoon montreal steak seasoning

Salt and Pepper to taste

3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

1 small package of freshly sliced portobello mushrooms or by them whole and slice yourself

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef stock

Directions:

1. In a large bowl combine the ground beef, egg, garlic, onion, steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands. From the mixture, make steak shaped patties that are about 2 inches thick.

2 Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef patties and cook about 4 minutes per side until the outside of the steaks are nicely browned and the juices run clear. Remove the steaks and cover with foil to keep them warm.

3 Add the rest of the olive oil along with the butter to the same pan. Add your mushrooms and then cook over medium heat until they are tender. Approximately 5 minutes. Season the mushrooms with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Add the flour to the mushrooms, mix and cook for about 2 minutes. Slowly add in your beef stock. Stir and cook until your sauce has thickened.

5. Pour gravy over steaks and serve.

EASY ITALIAN STYLE MEATLOAF RECIPE

I grew up in an Italian Family and I cannot think of a better way to cook meatloaf. Enjoy this delicious ground beef recipe using fresh italian herbs and garlic.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

2 eggs

1 7 ounce jar roasted red peppers chopped

1 onion chopped

2 cloves of garlic chopped

1 cup of bread crumbs

1 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup grated Parmesan Cheese

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

2 cups of prepared tomato sauce

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Directions:

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

2. Heat a medium sized saute pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add your onion and garlic and saute until soft. Remove and set it aside on a plate to cool.

3. Grab yourself a large mixing bowl.

4. Add the cooled onions and garlic along with the the rest of your ingredients, except the tomato sauce, and combine. Mix together well with your hands and form into a loaf and add it to an oiled oven safe tray. Top the loaf with 1 cup of the prepared tomato sauce. Make certain that you spread the tomato sauce evenly over the top of the loaf.

5. Bake for about 1 hour or when the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Slice it up and serve.

Heat the remaining tomato sauce if desired and use for dipping.

GREEK STYLE HAMBURGER RECIPE

For our last recipe why not make some delicious burgers? The preferred method for cooking these burgers is on the grill, but they will still be quite tasty if fried on the stovetop.

Greek Style Hamburger Ingredients:

1 pound of lean ground beef

1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese

1/2 cup chopped greek olives

1 small red onion chopped

3/4 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 package of hamburger rolls or pita bread

Hamburger Sauce Ingredients:

1 (16 ounce) container low-fat plain yogurt

1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves (more or less to suit your taste)

1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (more or less to suit your taste)

1 clove of garlic minced (add more or less to suit your taste)

1 tablespoon of olive oil

2 teaspoons of lemon juice

1/2 cup peeled, seeded and finely diced cucumber

Sauce Directions:

Prepare the sauce for your burgers first and put in the fridge until your burgers are done.

1. In a mixing bowl, combine your olive oil and lemon juice.

2. Now add in your yogurt making sure that you mix it well with the olive oil.

3. Add your garlic, cucumbers, parsley and mint leaves and stir well.

Burger Directions:

1. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-low heat. Add the chopped red onions and cook until tender, about 5 minutes. Put the onions aside into a large mixing bowl and allow them to cool.

2 To the same mixing bowl, add your ground beef, feta cheese, olives, oregano, salt and pepper and combine well.

3. Form hamburger patties to desired thickness.

4. Fry your burgers in the same skillet as the onions, or cook on the grill to desired doneness.

5. Spread the prepared sauce on the rolls or inside a pita.

6. Add burgers and enjoy!

There you have it. Three healthy and easy ground beef recipes that any home cook can prepare. I really hope you enjoy these recipes. Remember to use all organic ingredients if at all possible. Happy Cooking!

I sampled an angry whopper yesterday..and I must say, it was quite delicious. It was spicy, but not too much. They managed to find the right amount of kick without making it too much too handle.

At first I ignored the hamburger since it has bacon on it and I don’t like bacon on my burgers…but decided I had to try it since the marketing was so good. I was definitely happy with my choice. I’ll also add that the burger is not saturated in bacon, which for me was a plus.

Speaking of the marketing, the Angry Whopper has had some of the best marketing I’ve ever seen for a burger. On Facebook, Burger King gave out coupons for a free Angry Whopper if you defriended 10 people or more.

Another thing they have is an Angry-Gram, which is a cute way to send people a message saying you’re upset.

I’ve always been a huge fan of small hamburgers (often referred to as sliders). My favorite are the Cheesecake Factory’s. Ever since I first had them about 15 years ago, I’ve been hooked.

These small burgers have been rising in popularity. Now, big chains like Chili’s carry them (Bennigan’s started them too, before they went belly up).

All the major fast food chains have small hamburgers that are around a $1 a piece. They never really promoted them heavily. Hamburger lovers like myself always knew about them, but they were never popular among the mainstream public. For what it’s worth, Wendy’s Jr. Hamburgers are by far my favorite of the big chains. Krystal burgers the best of them all though (very similar to White Castle).

Burger King is now amping up the small burger business with Burger Shots. They’ve recently made commercials for these small burgers. I’m looking to find one of these on Youtube. When I do, I’ll embed it on this site.

Most of the time, Burger King’s and McDonald’s commercials are just basic branding techniques. Throw a picture of their signature burger in front of you and their logo and hopefully that’ll make you crave their product.

Burger King went a little more aggressive in their recent round of Whopper Virgins commercials. They traveled the world and went to remote places to find people that never ate a hamburger. For example, African tribes or the natives of remote parts of Greenland and Mongolia.

Burger King had these people try a Big Mac and a Whopper and asked which they liked more. Most responded that they enjoyed the Whopper more. I dont’ think the average American cares what a native Mongolian who has never ate American cuisine thinks of fast food, but the commercials are quite funny.

My one gripe, and I admit it’s a fairly petty one, is that I feel Burger King should have had the natives sample a quarter pounder with cheese instead of the Big Mac. The quarter pounder is McDonald’s best selling burger and the most direct comparison to the Whopper. As my girlfriend pointed out, the Big Mac is McDonalds’s signature burger, which is why it would make sense to use it. But if this were a scientific experiment, I believe they should have used the quarter pounder

Below is one of the Whopper Virgins commercials.

Never fear though, dollar menu lovers. McDonalds is introducing a McDouble burger, which is basically the same as the double cheeseburger except it has one less slice of cheese. This burger will be on the dollar menu.

Am I the only one out there that thought the double cheeseburger was a little too ‘cheesy’ to begin with? I love a good burger and all, but packing so much meat and cheese into such little space just gives me visions of an impending heart attack.

If you’re going to eat a good burger, you generally need to be in good ole’ US of A. If you’re in Europe, your best hope is an American chain like McDonalds. Don’t expect any create burger eating otherwise. Here’s what they try and generally fail to do.

1. The meat is almost always undercooked. They generally just give you a patty made of low-quality meat and then cook it medium to medium-rare. Ugh. If you’re going to give me trash, at least burn it so I can barely taste it.

2. The bun….oh the bun. They just use the most basic, pathetic bun possible. No care is taken to make the bun extra yummy. Store bought cheap all the way.

3. Seasonings…toppings…zest..forget about it. At best, you get some lettuce and ketchup. A blue cheese burger…Hahahahah, yeah right, dream on.

4. Cost….yet somehow, it’s still more expensive than in the US. I just don’t get it.

The burger is clearly an American creation best made by Americans.

There’s nothing worse than biting into a dry, unappetizing hamburger. You won’t have that problem with this great grilled hamburger recipe. Hamburgers come hot off the grill with a delectable juicy texture that makes each bite really enjoyable.

2 pounds ground beef

1 egg, beaten

3/4 cup bread crumbs, dry

3 tablespoons evaporated milk

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions

Preheat the grill on high setting.

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper and the garlic; mix ingredients with your hands. Form into 8 individual patties.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill hamburger patties for 5 minutes on each side, until well done.

=> Ground Beef Hamburger Meat Recipe: Hamburger with Ketchup Gravy

If there’s one thing that we know goes great together, it’s hamburger and ketchup. Now here’s a tasty twist on using ketchup on a hamburger patty. This ground beef hamburger recipe will become one of your favorites. The meat marinates in the gravy while it cooks and is oh, so delicious.

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup ketchup

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon steak seasoning, or to taste

Salt and pepper

2 teaspoons vegetable oil

1 large onion, cut up into chunks

1 cup ketchup

1/2 cup water, as needed

Directions

In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, 1/2 cup ketchup, bread crumbs, onion powder, steak sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Form hamburger into thick patties or meatballs.

Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy skillet on medium high heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides. Remove patties from skillet and place onto a paper towel lined plate. Drain grease from the skillet.

In the same skillet, slowly stir together the 1/2 cup ketchup and 1/2 cup water. You can add more water if the mixture is too thick, or, more ketchup if the mixture is too thin. Add in the onion and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low.

Add hamburger patties to the skillet and cover. Simmer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stir gravy. If the gravy is too thin, continue to simmer with the lid off until it thickens to the desired consistency.

=> Best Hamburger Recipe: Bacon Wrapped Hamburger

This qualifies as a best hamburger recipe because it is packed with flavor. It features two kinds of cheeses, onion, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and bacon. Wow. This recipe is a winner no matter how you serve it up.

1 tablespoon parmesan cheese, grated

1 small onion, chopped

1 egg

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

1 pound ground beef

6 slices bacon

6 hamburger buns, split

Directions

Preheat skillet or grill on high heat.

In a large bowl, combine the cheddar cheese, parmesan cheese, onion, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Crumble the ground beef into the bowl and mix thoroughly with your hands. Shape mixture into 6 patties. Wrap one slice of bacon around the edge of each one. Secure bacon to patties with toothpicks.

Place patties into skillet or onto the hot grill and cook for 5 minutes on each side,
or until well done. Remove the toothpicks before putting hamburgers onto buns.

=> Gourmet Hamburger Recipe: Spicy Blue Cheese Hamburger

We all know and love the traditional all-beef hamburger. There’s also the chicken sandwich, which is ok. But have you ever tasted a turkey burger, buffalo burger, or even ostrich burger?

These other sorts of ‘hamburgers’ really are hamburgers in the sense that they are a ground patty that sort of tastes like an all-beef hamburger. While they generally do not taste as good, they are lower in fat and calories.

Turkey

The most common form of alternate hamburger you’ll see is a turkey burger. I’m a fan of these sorts of burgers, but I like turkey in general. Turkey burgers can often be a little spicy. Try yours with a little tabasco sauce!

Buffalo

This is my favorite form of alternate hamburger. When done correctly, you can barely tell the difference between this and just a lean all-beef hamburger. Of course, that is when it is done correctly. Buffalo burgers aren’t common, but you’ll see them around. They are generally a little more expensive than traditional all-beef hamburgers.

Veggie

All I can say is ‘booooo.’ They generally taste like cardboard. Made out of beans and/or tofu, these patties are generally disgusting unless you are a hardcore vegetarian.

Ostrich

These types of burgers are pretty rare. You’ll generally only see them at ‘healthy eating’ places or a hardcore burger place that’s in a hippie neighborhood or something. Never had one myself. My friend did but didn’t seem to like it. He said it tasted very ‘gamey.’

Too long has America’s most famous culinary treasure been ridiculed as unhealthy and to be avoided. The great hamburger has been profiled as the epitome of American largesse, fatty, unhealthy, yet incredibly delicious.

To the hamburger naysayers, I say your time is over. The hamburger is about to make a comeback, big time. We will be seeing Americans scarving down an all beef patty sandwiched between two buns like never before. Two reasons in particular: the economic recession and cholesterol medication.

First, let’s face it, hard times are only beginning. As people have to cut back spending, they will rediscover the beauty of the hamburger. Hamburgers are cheap, filling, and delicious. No wonder they are the cornerstone of most fast food restaurants. Places like McDonalds and Burger King have tried to tout their non-hamburger alternatives for quite some time now, mostly to deaf ears. Now, consumers will come rushing back for these companies’ core product. So far this year, McDonalds stock is down 8%, which is pretty good considering the stock market as a whole is down 40%. Yes, it’s still down, but 32% outperformance is nothing to snubb.

Second, the greeny healthy-eating crew have lost a major anti-hamburger bullet with the advent of improved cholesterol medication. Yes, it is true the hamburger is not the most healthy meal in the world. But alas, cholesterol can now be controlled much more so now than in the past. I certainly am not recommending hamburgers as healthy eating, but with more and more Americans on cholesterol medication, the lesser the need to watch their cholesterol intake.
