Fast Food Miniburger Reviews

Author: admin  //  Category: Reviews

With the introduction of Jack In the Box’s mini-sirloin burgers and BK’s Burger Shots, the miniburger market has become all the craze. Here are my reviews of the top 3.

1. BK’s Burger Shots

Small, inexpensive and delicious. Can get these in packs of 2 or 6. An improvement over their regular ‘hamburger’ which is basically a mini-burger as well.

2. Jack In The Box’s Mini-Sirloin Burgers

Delicious, but not overwhelming. Can only buy a pack of 3 and these are fairly sizeable so it’s a bit of a downer for someone who just wants maybe one, a couple of tacos, and something else.

3. McDonalds Hamburger

The golden arches has had this burger for decades.Their standard $.89 or so burger. Small and delicious. Better than the BK/Jack In the Box/Wendy’s version in my opinion.

THE RECIPES:

EASY SALISBURY STEAK RECIPE

Here is a little tip to keep in mind as you are making this delicious ground beef recipe. There is a chance that your ground beef steaks can fall apart while cooking. To prevent this from happening, form your steak patties and put them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or so before you start cooking. This will help hold your steaks stay together.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

1 egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 small onion finely chopped

1 garlic clove chopped

1 tablespoon montreal steak seasoning

Salt and Pepper to taste

3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

1 small package of freshly sliced portobello mushrooms or by them whole and slice yourself

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups beef stock

Directions:

1. In a large bowl combine the ground beef, egg, garlic, onion, steak seasoning, Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper. Mix well with your hands. From the mixture, make steak shaped patties that are about 2 inches thick.

2 Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef patties and cook about 4 minutes per side until the outside of the steaks are nicely browned and the juices run clear. Remove the steaks and cover with foil to keep them warm.

3 Add the rest of the olive oil along with the butter to the same pan. Add your mushrooms and then cook over medium heat until they are tender. Approximately 5 minutes. Season the mushrooms with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Add the flour to the mushrooms, mix and cook for about 2 minutes. Slowly add in your beef stock. Stir and cook until your sauce has thickened.

5. Pour gravy over steaks and serve.

Angry Whopper

Author: admin  //  Category: Rants, Reviews

I sampled an angry whopper yesterday..and I must say, it was quite delicious. It was spicy, but not too much. They managed to find the right amount of kick without making it too much too handle.

At first I ignored the hamburger since it has bacon on it and I don’t like bacon on my burgers…but decided I had to try it since the marketing was so good. I was definitely happy with my choice. I’ll also add that the burger is not saturated in bacon, which for me was a plus.

Speaking of the marketing, the Angry Whopper has had some of the best marketing I’ve ever seen for a burger. On Facebook, Burger King gave out coupons for a free Angry Whopper if you defriended 10 people or more.

Another thing they have is an Angry-Gram, which is a cute way to send people a message saying you’re upset.

Starting A Burger Restaurant

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

Thinking about starting a burger restaurant? It’s difficult to start any business during these times. A useful website I found is Allfoodbusiness.com, which has helpful info about starting a restaurant. Since most burger restaurants are franchises, it’s useful to check out their pros and cons of buying a franchise restaurant.

Burger Shots

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

I’ve always been a huge fan of small hamburgers (often referred to as sliders). My favorite are the Cheesecake Factory’s. Ever since I first had them about 15 years ago, I’ve been hooked.

These small burgers have been rising in popularity. Now, big chains like Chili’s carry them (Bennigan’s started them too, before they went belly up).

All the major fast food chains have small hamburgers that are around a $1 a piece. They never really promoted them heavily. Hamburger lovers like myself always knew about them, but they were never popular among the mainstream public. For what it’s worth, Wendy’s Jr. Hamburgers are by far my favorite of the big chains. Krystal burgers the best of them all though (very similar to White Castle).

Burger King is now amping up the small burger business with Burger Shots. They’ve recently made commercials for these small burgers. I’m looking to find one of these on Youtube. When I do, I’ll embed it on this site.

Whopper Virgins Commercials

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

Most of the time, Burger King’s and McDonald’s commercials are just basic branding techniques. Throw a picture of their signature burger in front of you and their logo and hopefully that’ll make you crave their product.

Burger King went a little more aggressive in their recent round of Whopper Virgins commercials. They traveled the world and went to remote places to find people that never ate a hamburger. For example, African tribes or the natives of remote parts of Greenland and Mongolia.

Burger King had these people try a Big Mac and a Whopper and asked which they liked more. Most responded that they enjoyed the Whopper more. I dont’ think the average American cares what a native Mongolian who has never ate American cuisine thinks of fast food, but the commercials are quite funny.

My one gripe, and I admit it’s a fairly petty one, is that I feel Burger King should have had the natives sample a quarter pounder with cheese instead of the Big Mac. The quarter pounder is McDonald’s best selling burger and the most direct comparison to the Whopper. As my girlfriend pointed out, the Big Mac is McDonalds’s signature burger, which is why it would make sense to use it. But if this were a scientific experiment, I believe they should have used the quarter pounder :)

Below is one of the Whopper Virgins commercials.

Cholesterol Drug Info

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

Cuz, hey, if you’re a hamburger lover, good chance you’ll be popping these meds eventually :)

Diet and lifestyle changes are the first two things you should do if you are concerned about preventing or treating unhealthy cholesterol levels, whether or not your doctor prescribes a cholesterol medication. If those two changes alone won’t do well enough for your cholesterol levels then your doctor may want to consider cholesterol lowering medications.

At the same time as you’re starting to make lifestyle changes, depending on your bad cholesterol level and other risk factors you may have, your doctor may decide that you need to start drug therapy. Blood cholesterol levels can be lowered by various medications. They can be prescribed alone or in combination with other drugs. Gemfibrozil, clofibrate, reisins and nicotinic acid are some common types of cholesterol lowering drugs.

Clofibrate is a cholesterol lowering medication that lowers the triglyceride levels and also it raises the HDL cholesterol levels.

Gemfibrozil is a drug that raises HDL cholesterol levels.

Nicotinic acid – a cholesterol lowering medication that works in the liver by lowering the production of blood fats. It helps lower the LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and also raise the HDL cholesterol level.

Resins – Cholesterol lowering medication that is also called bile acid-binding drugs. They help lower the cholesterol level by working in the intestines and promoting the disposal of cholesterol. In this class there are three known kinds of medications: Cholestyramine (Questran, Prevalite, Lo-Cholest), Colesevelam (WelChol), Colestipol (Colestid).

Statins – Cholesterol lowering medication which has a really effective effect in lowering the LDL (or the bad) cholesterol levels and but also known of having some immediate short-term side effects. These can range from damaged livers, muscle aches and even impotency. Generally prescribed statins include the following: Fluvastatin (Lescol), Rosuvastatin Calcium (Crestor), Pravastatin (Pravachol), Simvastatin (Zocor), Atorvastatin (Lipitor).

The only problem with the above is that can cause side effects, an dalthough they may treat the symptoms of a cholesterol, more often than not, they will not help to fight against the inner root of the problem.

In form of a “dietary supplement” comes another cholesterol lowering medication called niacin or nicotinic acid. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not regulated niacin as a dietary supplement.

Its amount of niacin is variable from none to much more than the label states. The factor on which this amount varies is usually not a medical one, but a brand’s choice. It is imperative that you do not use dietary supplement niacin as a substitute for the prescription one. It shows potentially very serious side effects and it should not be used for lowering cholesterol levels.

If by any chance you are under any cholesterol lowering medications discussed here, it is important to discuss with your doctor before stopping any treatment.

McDonalds To Raise Price Of Double Cheeseburger

Author: admin  //  Category: Uncategorized

McDonalds announced today that it is going to raise the price of a double cheeseburger. It is taking the famous burger off the dollar menu and will now sell it for $1.19 a pop. McDonalds cites the rising costs of cheese and beef for the move.

Never fear though, dollar menu lovers. McDonalds is introducing a McDouble burger, which is basically the same as the double cheeseburger except it has one less slice of cheese. This burger will be on the dollar menu.

Am I the only one out there that thought the double cheeseburger was a little too ‘cheesy’ to begin with? I love a good burger and all, but packing so much meat and cheese into such little space just gives me visions of an impending heart attack.

What Europeans Don’t Understand About Hamburgers

Author: admin  //  Category: Rants

If you’re going to eat a good burger, you generally need to be in good ole’ US of A. If you’re in Europe, your best hope is an American chain like McDonalds. Don’t expect any create burger eating otherwise. Here’s what they try and generally fail to do.

1. The meat is almost always undercooked. They generally just give you a patty made of low-quality meat and then cook it medium to medium-rare. Ugh. If you’re going to give me trash, at least burn it so I can barely taste it.

2. The bun….oh the bun. They just use the most basic, pathetic bun possible. No care is taken to make the bun extra yummy. Store bought cheap all the way.

3. Seasonings…toppings…zest..forget about it. At best, you get some lettuce and ketchup. A blue cheese burger…Hahahahah, yeah right, dream on.

4. Cost….yet somehow, it’s still more expensive than in the US. I just don’t get it.

The burger is clearly an American creation best made by Americans.
